Within the framework of the 20th Anniversary International Exhibition of machinery, equipment and technologies for the logging, woodworking and furniture industry LesDrevMash in Expocentre Fairgrounds, Moscow, September 9-11th, 2024, the next Forum of the timber industry companies WoodWorld-2024 will be held.
The program of the event is divided into three parts. On the first day of the Forum, on September 9th, an overall assessment of the state of the timber industry in Russia and its potential will be given. In addition, on the first day, the drivers of the industry's development – the construction and logging industries - will be considered.
The second day of the Forum, on September 10th, will be devoted to the production and sales of lumber, both on domestic and foreign markets. This year, special attention will be paid to the development of exports to Central Asian countries. Also on this day, the issue of providing Russian wood product manufacturers with equipment and spare parts will be considered. We will try to figure out whether Russia has a chance to establish its own timber machine tool industry. According to a number of experts, the Russian timber industry has a timespan of 10-15 years when it is possible to build sustainable supply chains of timber products to some markets and build its own supply chains of equipment and spare parts. After this period, China, due to the wood grown on plantations, can create serious competition for Russian producers in their traditional markets. This factor can create increased competition among Russian manufacturers in the woodproduct markets and make the potential of machine tool construction difficult to create. Therefore, it is very important to raise these issues now, entering into an open discussion, and be on the way to solving emerging risks.
The third day of the Forum, on September 11th, will be devoted to the production and sales of wood-based panels and plywood. At this session, the main emphasis will be shifted towards the furniture industry, furniture associations from Central Asian countries are also invited to participate in the event. The markets of the post-Soviet countries remain for Russia an extension of its own markets, so it is important to work in conjunction with the furniture industry in these regions.
