Annual inflation in Russia accelerated to 6.69% in October 2023 against 6% in September. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.83%, according to Rosstat data.
According to statistics, food prices in October increased by 1.35% compared to September and increased by 6% year-on-year. Prices for non-food products increased by 0.55% on a monthly basis and by 5.08% compared to October 2022. The cost of services increased by 0.48% compared to September and by 9.92% in annual terms.
Food products
In October, prices increased for certain types of fruit and vegetable products, including tomatoes — by 31.1%, garlic — by 8.5%, bananas — by 5.8%, oranges — by 3.6%, grapes — by 2.1%. At the same time, potato prices decreased by 8.9%, white cabbage — by 7.7%, carrots — by 6.6%, apples — by 6.0%, lemons — by 2.4%, table beets - by 2.3%.
Among other food products, Hamburger sandwiches have risen in price by 4.8%, chicken legs by 4.2%, turkey meat, poultry culinary products and olive oil by 3.1-3.3%, pork and lamb (except boneless meat), milled rice, milk powder for baby food, coffee in bistroes — by 1.9-2.9%, boneless beef and pork, sausages, minced meat, wheat and rye bread, bakery products, milk for children, canned tomatoes, semolina, ketchup, dry seasonings, spices, lunch in the diners, cafe, snack bars — by 1.5-1.8%.
At the same time, salmon caviar has fallen in price by 2.5%, canned meat and canned fruits and berries for baby food, vermicelli and cocoa by 0.2-0.7%.
Non-food products and medicines
In October, prices for medicines not related to vital and essential medicines increased by an average of 1.2%, including multivitamins — by 4.5%, synupret — by 4.3%, sulfacetamide — by 3.3%, allohol — by 2.2%, metamizole sodium (domestic analgin) — by 2.1%, ketorol express — by 2%, activated carbon, acipol, afobazole, corvalol, magne B6, methyluracil, citramon — by 1.3-1.9%. Prices for levomekol and rengalin decreased by 0.4%.
Medicines related to vital, on average, have become more expensive by 1%, including acetylsalicylic acid (domestic aspirin) — by 4.7%, acetylcysteine (ACC) — by 2.1%, furosemide — by 2%, ceftriaxone — by 1.8%, eufillin — by 1.7%, ascorbic acid and xylometazoline (galazoline) — by 1.4%, pancreatin — by 1.3%, glycine and ambroxol — by 1.2%, vinpocetine, grippferon, ibuprofen, sodium chloride, umifenovir (arbidol) — by 1.1%. Prices decreased: for suprastin — by 0.4%, bisoprolol — by 0.2%.
Among medical goods and surgical dressings, prices have increased: for standard medical electronic thermometers — by 1.3%, domestic cotton wool - by 0.8%, medical mercury-free (galinstane) thermometers — by 0.7%, corrective glasses — by 0.6%, disposable syringes — by 0.5%, bandages — by 0.4%.
Of the observed goods included in the recommended list of non—food essential goods, the following rose in price: baby nipples (pacifiers) - by 1.5%, baby paper diapers — by 1.3%, sanitary pads — by 1.2%, baby creams and feeding bottles - by 1.1%, diapers for newborns and matches — by 1%, soap — by 0.8%, washing powders and toothpastes — by 0.7%, sanitary and hygienic masks (medical) - by 0.6%, dry pet food — by 0.4%, surface disinfectants and wet wipes — by 0.3%, sanitary paper and tissues — by 0.2%, antiseptics for hands — by 0.1%.
Gas motor fuel has risen in price by 1.3%. Prices for gasoline decreased by 1.6%, diesel fuel — by 1.5%.
In the group of electrical goods and other household appliances, prices increased: for microwave ovens — by 3.3%, floor electric vacuum cleaners — by 2.5%, household stoves — by 1.4%, electric lamps — by 1%, washing machines, electric drills, AA batteries — by 0.8%. At the same time, prices for sewing machines decreased by 0.5%.
Among construction materials, prices have increased: for metal tiles — by 2.5%, roofing material — by 1.8%, edged boards — by 1.4%, chipboard, OSB, drywall and stainless steel sinks for the kitchen - by 1.1%, linoleum — by 0.9%.
Among other non-food products, the prices have risen: imported used and domestic new passenger cars, tires for passenger cars, televisions, laptops, USB flash drives, carpets, jewelry, skates, footballs, toys, sets of felt-tip pens, black-graphite pencils, freshly cut flowers, firewood, gloves made of genuine leather, shaving machines, shovels garden, certain types of furniture, tableware, clothing, underwear, knitwear and shoes for children and adults, perfumes and cosmetics - by 0.9-2.4%.
At the same time, prices decreased: for sneakers for adults and children — by 1.1% and 0.6%, respectively, fixed telephones - by 0.9%, wireless headphones - by 0.7%, tablet computers, road bikes for adults, umbrellas, women's bags, satchels, backpacks for schoolchildren, office paper, paper handkerchiefs, certain types of clothing and shoes — by 0.1-0.4%.
Services
In October, prices increased in the passenger transport services group: economy class airfare — by 10.8%, metro travel — by 7.2%, combined ticket for urban passenger transport and tram travel — by 4.4%, commuter train — by 3.7%, taxi — by 1.8%, intercity and urban buses — by 1.5%, trolleybus — by 1.4%, carriage in high-speed long-distance trains — by 1.2%, minibus — by 0.8%. At the same time, the prices for travel in compartment and second—class carriages on long-distance trains decreased from 1.9% to 5.9%. Car rental prices increased by 3.8%.
Among the services of foreign tourism, prices for vacation trips to the UAE increased by 0.3%. Prices decreased: for trips to Egypt — by 12.2%, Turkey — by 11.4%, Transcaucasian countries — by 5.7%, Belarus — by 4.8%, some countries of Southeast and Central Asia — by 2.8% and 2.7%, respectively.
Among other tourism and recreation services, the cost increased: bus excursions — by 1.9%, theater tickets — by 0.9%, sightseeing tours in Russia — by 0.7%, cinema tickets - by 0.6%. Cheaper: vacation trips to the Black Sea coast of Russia and Crimea — by 12.4%, accommodation in hostels — by 3%, vouchers to health resorts, boarding houses — by 2.2%, sanatoriums — by 2.1%, accommodation in 1-5 star hotels and motels — from 0.2% to 1%.
Among household services, the following rose in price: repair and maintenance of vehicles — by 2%, installation of plastic windows — by 1.6%, parenting services — by 1.3%, dry cleaning, laundry services, nursing services — by 1.2%, manicure — by 1.1%, repair, tailoring — by 1%, the setting of the pads — by 0.9%, the performance of tile cladding, haircuts — by 0.8%.
Among medical services, prices have increased: for the initial consultative examination of the patient at the dentist — by 2%, caries treatment — by 1.2%, tooth extraction under local anesthesia — by 1.1%, physiotherapy treatment — by 0.9%, the manufacture of a removable prosthesis — by 0.8%.
Among other observed services, the cost increased: fees for the use of consumer credit — by 6.9%, subscription fees for a package of cellular services — by 3.1%, rent of one— and two-bedroom apartments from private individuals - by 3.1% and 2.7%, respectively, a club card to a fitness club - by 2.3%, additional classes in state and municipal educational organizations — by 1.8%, photocopying of a document — by 1.4%, certification of a will in a notary office — by 1.3%, additional classes for preschoolers — by 1.2%, rental of residential premises in state and municipal housing funds, classes in foreign language courses, accommodation in a student dormitory, bank commission for transferring funds from card to card, power of attorney in a notary office, use of a public toilet, veterinary services — by 0.7-1%.
At the same time, the cost of the annual policy of voluntary insurance of a passenger car against standard risks decreased by 1.1% and compulsory insurance of civil liability of vehicle owners by 0.5%.
