In 2023, the structure of supply and demand is steadily improving, and the transformation and upgrading of the processing and manufacturing industries also make positive progress. Now, China's economy has entered a stage of high-quality development.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Economic and Development Organization (OECD) forecast China's GDP growth rate to be 4.6% in 2024, remaining the largest engine pulling global growth. The new urbanization and rural revitalization strategy, the Belt and Road strategy and the international and domestic double circulation pattern being implemented in China will drive continued growth in domestic consumer demand.
At present, China's real estate market is in a period of deep adjustment, the consumption of building materials is showing a downward trend, interior decoration is developing steadily, and the consumption structure of wood and wood products is changing. In terms of timber supply, the quality of domestic forests is poor, and China still needs to import large quantities of timber from abroad. In 2023, China imported 77.5 million m3 of wood (equivalent logs), down 4.7% year-on-year. Among them, 38 million m3 wood are logs (equivalent logs), and 39.45 million m3 lumber (equivalent logs) is imported.
The Global Wood Trade Conference was founded in 2011, the conference is held every year in major trade port cities of timber and wood products in China.
