East Timor's economy depends on international support. East Timor is an agrarian state. The country 's economy was destroyed during the 1976-1999 civil war .
The main natural resource of East Timor is oil and gas. There are deposits of gold, platinum, marble and manganese on the territory of the country.
Agriculture is quite developed on the island. Residents grow coffee, cocoa, cinnamon, coconut palm, rice, corn, cassava, soy, sweet potato, mango, bananas, vanilla, tobacco, cotton. The country has established the production of copra, soap and cosmetics, as well as pearl fishing — one of the ways of income for residents of the country.
The main mode of transport in East Timor is by road. There are about 6040 km of highways in the country, of which 2600 km are paved and 3440 km are unpaved. One sea cargo port in Dili. There are no railways in East Timor.
