The Dominican Republic is an agrarian and industrial country. The main agricultural crop is sugar cane. More than 10% of the world's avocado production, the second largest in the world.

Other important export crops are coffee, cocoa, fruit and tobacco. Rice, legumes, cassava and bananas are grown for domestic consumption.

The country has small reserves of bauxite, nickel, gold and silver. The mining industry is the most important source of export profits.

2/3 of manufacturing enterprises are engaged in the processing of agricultural raw materials. Clothing, cement and cardboard containers are also produced.

The production of sporting goods has also been established. Seven free industrial and economic zones have been created in the country, where garments, electrical goods and shoes are produced.
