Cambodia is a predominantly agricultural country. In terms of growth rates, it is one of the fastest growing economies in Southeast Asia and the world.

Agriculture employs 60% of the working-age population, and accounts for about a third of the country's total GDP. One fifth of the country's territory is cultivated, and rice is the main agricultural crop. Corn, bananas, and natural rubber are also grown.

Inland freshwater reservoirs provide 95% of the fish catch, most of which is harvested in Tonle Sap Lake. One of the leading industries is logging. Cambodia's traditional valuable wood species are grown — teak, sandalwood, ebony and mahogany, which are used in the production of expensive furniture and are exported.

Minerals such as copper, gold, coal, bauxite, manganese have been explored in Cambodia, and precious stones are being mined. The manufacturing industry is mainly represented by the processing of agricultural raw materials, fish and wood, the production of cement, cigarettes, soap, and clothing. The main product of Cambodian exports is textiles.

Tourism is the most important sector of Cambodia's economy, generating up to 8.5% of GDP and providing more than 500 thousand jobs.
