Agriculture in Burkina Faso employs 90% of the working-age population, it provides about 23% of GDP. Only a small part of the land is cultivated, which is due to infertile soils and a small amount of moisture. Many peasants leave for Ivory Coast as seasonal workers. The main food crops are sorghum and millet. Corn, rice, yams, cassava, sweet potatoes are cultivated. Important cash crops are cotton, sugar cane, peanuts.

Industry employs 10% of the working-age population, it provides about 26% of GDP. Gold is being mined, marble and antimony are mined in small quantities. There are deposits of zinc, silver, nickel, lead, phosphorites and limestone.

There are light and food industry plants for processing agricultural raw materials, the production of soap, beer, cigarettes, cotton fabrics. Bicycles and motorcycles are being assembled.

Export items: cotton, gold, livestock. Export Partners: China 13.5%, India 8.7%, Indonesia 7.1%, Bangladesh 6.4%, France 5.7%, Canada 5.2%, Japan 4.4%.

Import items: machinery, food, fuel. Import partners: Ivory Coast 19.6%, France 14.1%, Togo 7.7%, China 4.8%, India 4.7%, Ghana 4.7%.
