Botswana
Botswana is a rapidly developing country. Agriculture employs about 16% of the able-bodied population, it provides 1.8% of GDP. The main branch of agriculture in Botswana is animal husbandry (cattle, sheep, horses). 5% of the land is cultivated. The main crops are corn (10 thousand tons), vegetables (16 thousand tons), millet, wheat and sorghum (32 thousand tons). Fruits, cotton, tobacco are also grown. The country imports most of its grain from South Africa.
Industry accounts for 32.9% of GDP. At the same time, the mining industry is the leading industry, it provides 45% of foreign exchange earnings. Diamonds are mined, Botswana ranks first in the world in terms of the value of diamonds mined. Copper and nickel, coal, table salt, gold, platinum and silver are also mined. 8% of GDP is provided by the manufacturing industry. There are factories for processing agricultural raw materials, food industry enterprises. Buses are being assembled, textile, chemical industry, metalworking, production of consumer goods are developing.
Export items: diamonds, nickel, copper, soda, meat, textiles. Import items: food, machinery and equipment, transport equipment, fuel and petroleum products.
