Bhutan

Bhutan is an agrarian state. Bhutan's economy is based on agriculture and forestry, which provide the main means of subsistence for more than 60% of the population. The economy is strongly oriented towards India through trade and monetary relations.

Agriculture accounts for 22.3% of GDP, but the industry employs 63% of the employed population.

Before the construction of hydroelectric power plants, wood was almost the only source of fuel for heating, cooking and lighting. The small population and poor industrial development contributed to the preservation of forests. The Government has an environmental policy, which is crucial for the environment.

According to official statistics, there are 4007 kilometers of roads and 426 bridges in the kingdom.

Tourism in Bhutan is still largely limited by quotas for the entry of foreigners and high prices for tourist services set by the government.
