Benin
Benin is an agrarian state. Half of the able-bodied population is employed in agriculture, it provides 36.3% of GDP. The main export crop is cotton. Pineapples, bananas, and robusta coffee are also grown. Corn (842 thousand tons), mango, cassava (3.1 million tons), vegetables, millet, rice (64.7 thousand tons), sorghum (163.8 thousand tons) and yams (2.2 million tons) are grown for domestic consumption.
A small part of the able-bodied population is employed in industry, it gives 13.5% of GDP. Gold, marble and limestone are being mined. Oil production has begun on the coast. The manufacturing industry is mainly represented by enterprises processing agricultural raw materials. There are textile factories, food processing plants and cement production plants.
Export items: cotton, cashew nuts, seafood. Export Partners: China 27%, India 21.7%, Lebanon 8.4%, Niger 5%, Nigeria 4.5%.
Import items: food, fuel, machinery and equipment. Import partners: China 30.2%, Algeria 25.1%, USA 6.8%, India 4.6%, Thailand 4.4%, Malaysia 4.3%.
